The 3 Goals of ITER
- The goal is to produce a ten-fold return on energy (Q=10), or 500 MW of fusion power from 50 MW of input heating power, and maintain a continuous fusion reaction for 400 seconds.
- Demonstration of Fusion Reactor Technologies: Demonstrate the engineering technologies necessary for the burning of plasma.
- Tests of Fusion Energy Extraction: Tests will be done to extract heat from nuclear fusion energy generated by burning plasma. In addition, tests for recycling tritium fuel will also be carried out.
